Stars come out

I had something like this as a kid and if I'm lucky my mom still has it for my kids. If not, I will definitely make some of these!

It's a great way to truly explore the constellations, their history and mythology.

Freeze it!

A ton of the ideas I've seen on pintrest are about the various things you can freeze. I was previously totally unaware of them. My favorite.... Onions. It makes cooking day to day so much easier.

Time Saving Tip: Freeze Chopped Onion & Garlic. Brilliant!!

I do find that I wait and wait to actually replenish my supply when I'm running out, but I always eventually do. It just often makes the prep for one meal a little longer. Whenever I've mentioned this one to people they are super excited. And I have to say, this one is probably one of the main reasons I got hooked on pintrest.

Cool but more complicated than it looks

This is probably true of everything on pintrest actually. The one I've included below I did for the grandmothers last year at Mother's Day. It wasn't quite as easy as it looked, but it was very well received. The hand placement to get a heart shape can be a little tricky, especially for an impatient child.

Heart hand card

It only took a few tries on myself before I figured out the general hand placement and could coach/squish the kids hands into the right shape. I highly recommend doing this for someone you love. We each did one and sent them in a nesting stack, which both grandmothers thought was especially cool.

A sorta unrelated picture

When I saw this pin, I thought several things that turned out to be a little off. The first was that the post was all about this board.  The second, was that it was a homeschool mom using this in the home.  I was really only interested in this board.  The teacher that wrote the blog post was sharing all sorts of things and the section about how she uses this was also focused on another tool she uses in the classroom.  Great stuff for a 1st grade teacher. That just isn't what drew me to this pin.  My son is starting to grasp the idea of days and identifying letters. I think something similar to this board might be a great way to bring this type of learning into our house too.

There's nothing wrong with the image or the blog post attached to the pin. However, as someone who's become adjusted to my information coming in bite sized portions it just wasn't what I expected when I clicked through.  I did repin it though, and you know why?  Because i still think this board is a great idea and I didn't want to lose track of it.  Maybe a neat way to add learning to your fridge?

Approaching Valentines Day

An awesome aspect of Pintrest is the holiday ideas.  As we get closer to Valentines day, I've gone back into my holiday board to see what is there.  But I'm also seeing my friends pin all manner of neat ideas.  Of course, who is going to be able to try them all?  Not this gal!  But one I loved straight off, is the one below:

OMG these are too stinkin cute!!! "I'm glad we're in the same school." Valentine printout in a plastic bag with Swedish fish or gummy fish.

Working through creating the design of the printable fishbowl was more troublesome and time consuming than I had expected.  I'm really glad I started with a lot of heads up time.  I've done tons of bagging things like this for up to 60 people.  I've pretty much always just bought from the store though.  So I may have been too optimistic about it.  Now that the hard part is done though, I can't wait to put them together!

Pictures

I loved photography in my school age years.  So much so that I thought I might want to do it for a living.  That's not the path I took, but I revisit it occasionally.  The iPhone has made having another pocket camera obsolete for me.  And I've embarked upon projects to improve my photo skills again on the iPhone   So this article seemed right up my alley.

Take better pictures with your iPhone.

This article is choc full of great tips and app suggestions that had me revisit Camera+ again.  I'm really glad I took the time to read it.  The basic camera tips are ones I already knew.  I don't always practice them well, so it was a nice reminder. Hands down the best bit was the one about how to actually snap a photo in the iPhone.  I know I've read that before, but since I don't use it daily.  I'd forgotten about it and here it is again... an awesome tip!

Cute ideas and cuter kids

I saw this one right before Christmas and had happened upon early shoes for both my kids around the same time. In my tendency to simplify even the simple things, I just used the existing laces to hang them from the tree.

turn baby's first shoe into a sentimental Christmas ornament! write the year on the bottom!

Now my son doesn't remember his shoe, so that one went by unnoticed on the tree. His sister's shoe was a different story. He knew it was hers and kept taking it down, quite adamant that it did not belong on the tree.
